Crypto Tax Calculator Germany (Holding Period, Exemption Threshold, FIFO)

⚠️ Important notice: This calculator is for general orientation only and does not replace individual tax advice. It calculates strictly according to German tax law (§ 23 EStG) — it does not reflect the tax rules of your own country of residence. For a legally binding tax return, please consult a tax advisor (Steuerberater) or use specialized crypto tax software.

  • Holding period rule: if you held the crypto for more than 365 days before selling, the profit is completely tax-free.
  • Exemption threshold (§ 23 EStG): for trades held under 365 days, all your private sale profits of the calendar year (not just crypto) are tax-free if their sum stays below the threshold (1,000€ since 2024, 600€ for 2023 and earlier). If the sum reaches or exceeds the threshold, the entire amount becomes taxable — not just the part above the threshold. This is a "Freigrenze", not a tax-free allowance.
  • FIFO: if you bought the same coin multiple times, Germany generally applies First-In-First-Out to determine which purchase belongs to which sale (this determines the holding period per unit sold). Enter each buy/sell pair you've already matched via FIFO as one row below.
